28 Dec TOTAL OBEDIENCE 2
THEME: TOTAL OBEDIENCE
TOPIC: TOTAL OBEDIENCE 2
TEXT: ACTS 5:29-32
AIM: Our obedience to God be in reverence and not fear
Our reason for coming to fellowship should be to know more about Jesus. It should be that we are constantly fed God’s word. Heb 10:25 says we ought to encourage one another each time we gather.
Last week, we examined the resoluteness of apostles to obeying God. This single-mindedness was demonstrated twice (Acts 4:18-20, 5:29-32). Also, we took a look at the book of Samuel (1Sam 15) where Saul chose to be obedient to men rather than God.
OBEDIENCE TO WHAT?
For us to be obedient there must be an instruction. Man is a product of influence, a product of instructions (Jer 10:23). In Gen 41, when Joseph interpreted Pharaoh’s dream, we saw that total obedience caused them to be in abundance.
HOW GOD DOES SPEAK?
Elijah expected God to speak in certain ways, but it wasn’t so (1Kings 19:9-14). We expect God to direct us in the way we think. Most times when we are looking for the spectacular, we miss the supernatural.
Man is described as spirit, soul and body (1Thess 5:23). God does not lead man by feelings. The body responds to feelings, the mind responds to intellect. Being led by the spirit of God is to be led in my spirit. We can’t contact God with our eyes or ears or mind, but by the spirit of God (1Cor 2:7-10).
The two unbiased ways to receive instructions from God are:
1. Meditation on the Word (Jos 1:8, Col 3:16, 1Tim 4:15-16, Jam 1:22-25)
2. Prayer (Eph 6:18, Rom 12:12, Phil 4:6, Heb 5:7)
God’s leading is our priority. He guides and leads us in the way that we should go (Psalm 32:8). Every one of God’s children is entitled to God’s leading and direction (Rom 8:14). But, not every one of God’s children listens to God’s leading.
It is never old school to obey the leading of the spirit (Prov 3:5-6). It is better to be slower than God than to be faster than him.
I’m led by the Spirit,
I have the Light of Life,
I don’t walk in darkness,
I walk in the Light,
I’m obedient to the Word.
