28 Dec Total Obedience 1
THEME: TOTAL OBEDIENCE
TOPIC: TOTAL OBEDIENCE 1
TEXT: ACTS 5:29-32
AIM: Our obedience to God be in reverence and not in fear
The Word of God is in a person: Jesus. (John 1:1, 14). The Bible is thus being referred to as the word of God because it testifies of a person; it speaks expressly about the person of Christ. The bible is the written word and Jesus, is the Living word. The written word testifies about the living word. (Luke 24:44-45)
A proper bible study which entails rightly dividing the word of truth, (2Tim 2:15) is thus one that sees Jesus as the singular message of the scriptures. The truth is a person and that person is Jesus. (John 8:32, 14:6)
Jesus poured out the Holy Spirit at Pentecost to empower the disciples to be witnesses (Acts 1:8, Acts 2:4). Thus, we are not surprised to learn that they proceeded to witness in great power (Acts 2:38,41, 3:6). However, their witnessing did not go unnoticed or unopposed. It led to great controversy. Luke in the book of Acts of the Apostles provided considerable detail about both the witness and the opposition. This was the second time the apostles expressed their resoluteness to obeying God. (Acts 4:18-20, 5:29-32)

Peter (1Pet 1:14) calls believers obedient Children. We should obey man only in so far that in obeying him, we also obey God. (Eph 6:1).
Our obedience is always to an instruction. Thus, there is a need for us to constantly receive instructions from God for us to obey Him. God’s will for us as believers is to be led by the spirit. Not by circumstances, conditions, occurrences, situations, environments, etc.
John 8:12, says that Jesus is the light of the world and John 1, calls Him the Word of God. i.e., the word of God is the light of the world. Therefore, for me to walk in light and not walk in darkness, I must know the word.
a. How does being obedient differ from being submissive?
b. To what extent am I to obey man?
c. From 1sam 15, determine the nature of pressures that led Saul to disobey.
