16 Feb SONS IN THE IMAGE OF CHRIST
BIBLE STUDY 15TH FEBRUARY 2017
THEME: SONS OF GOD
TOPIC: SONS IN THE IMAGE OF CHRIST
TEXT : Gen 1:26-29, Eph 2:4-9
AIM: To bring Believers into the knowledge of the sonship which Christ has brought.
INTRODUCTION
In the previous month we have closely looked at the topic LOVE, wherein we spoke about the father’s love and how we as believers ought to show forth this love in our daily actions. This month we would be looking at the topic Sons of God.
The Greek word for Son is “HYIOS” , and this means a person of equal characteristics, therefore Sons of God are those who have been shaped, regenerated and made (recreation) to the likeness of God. In the beginning, God created man in his own image and likeness with the intention of love and to have dominion over all that he has created here on earth Gen 1:26-29, but man fell from that state of the dominance to the state of subjectivity. But God so much loved us that he gave us his only begotten son, in order for the wrath of his love to be satisfied. John 3:16, Eph 2:4, 1John 3:1. This is not therefore by any man’s strength but by the grace of God. Eph 2:1-6; 8.
HOW WE ENTERED INTO SONSHIP
- By Faith in Christ Jesus John 1:12, Eph 2:8-9:- Christ was a man born by the Holyghost Matt 1:18, 20, John 1:13, therefore man in his fallen state has to be regenerated in the likeness of the new man. John 3:5-6.
- Being led by the spirit. Rom 8:14, Luke 4:1, Eph 2:1-6
- Understanding the love of God 1john 3:1, Christ being the first begotten and loved of God calls us to make us his brethren and this confers upon us power and dignity to become sons. God then adopts us as the children of the son. Rom 8:15.
CONCLUSION
As Christians, we ought not to be struggling or look forward to that special day when we would become sons, but what we ought to do is to live out the life of sonship which Christ has made us into, For Jesus is not ashamed to call us brothers Heb2:11.
