TOPIC: WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ENCOUNTER THE LIGHT (PETERS’ ENCOUNTER WITH THE LIGHT)
PREACHER: PASTOR ODEYALE TIMILEHIN
Before now, we have heard what Matt 5:13-16 means. This is not to recount what others have been saying but this is to take another dimension. The issue is that some of us have been surprised one time or the other by the characters that ‘supposed Christians’ display. Most new believers aim for the gifts of the Spirit only few aim for the fruit of the Spirit. But in order to get to heaven, you need the fruit of the Spirit.
I as a light of men what is expected of me?
In John 1, John gave an account of what happened in the beginning; Genesis. In John 1, John was referring to Jesus.
Who was Peter before he met Jesus, who was Jesus before he met Peter?
Before then, Jesus and Peter never met and Jesus needed to use Peter’s boat so he could have a platform to preach to people.
When Jesus told Peter to launch into the deep, Peter tried because he had heard of Jesus and he had a miracle and since then, he followed Christ.
Jesus preached for just 3 years and He brought about a change. Do you think it was just His words? Jesus did all that he said. What He did tallied with what He said.
Why did Peter and Andrew leave their trade and follow a strange Jesus (because then Jesus was not known)? The answer is in Luke 5:10. They came across a man who is God in Himself, an epitome of grace, living in uprightness; they bowed to a superior Being. Did they follow Him to the end?
PETER’S ENCOUNTER WITH LIGHT
Mark 1:15-18, Luke 5:10
Peter me with Christ and walked with Him for 3 years and His Light imparted the world.
his Light (God, Jesus) must have an influensive personality. Is it because He is God? Is it because He is man?
The reason why God has so great an influence on man is because He is God and He doesn’t change.
Peter had the privilege of walking and knowing the true God. He didn’t have to pray and read His Bible to know God. He just had to obey His word and follow. Phil. 3:5-10. But we need to pray and obey and follow Him when you know Christ, you must make people know that you know Him.
WAS IT EASY FOR PETER TO KNOW JESUS AND ACCEPT HIM FOR WHO HE IS?
The Father revealed it and he knew that Jesus was God. Even after Mary had walked with Jesus for a long time, she didn’t still know Jesus (John 20:14)
Through the manifestation of the fruit, we will be able to reveal to the world that we are Lights. Let’s arrive at a stage where we don’t need to tell people that we are Christians but our characters should show.
What happens when a man encounters the Light?
He becomes a new creation 2 Cor. 5:17. He changes from what he used to be to being a man living a life of God.
He receives the Holy Spirit Acts 9:17 as a guide and as a teacher.
