14 Feb Consider these (14/02/2016)
I thank God, the father of our Lord Christ Jesus for His ever resolute faithfulness over us last year. This is the second month in the New Year, am using this opportunity to wish everyone well this year. It is my prayers that His grace will cause us to be faithful to Him this year.
Beloveth, there are some issues which has brought me to my knees about the personality of King David. Let us journey together as we consider this man’s life.
Psalm 51 changed my perception, I discovered that this man’s prayer life was exceptional. Sincerely speaking, I don’t think a man who is easily distracted or carried away in the place of prayer can pray this heavenly focused prayer.
With this I have come realize that It is not that we don’t pray, most of us even spend hours while praying but have failed to add FOCUS to our prayer life. Some of us will have prayed for good ten minutes before discovering that we have been thinking about a pressing issue, due to this we try to recollect what we have been praying for but could not because the pressing issues and the uncleanness of our hearts has robbed our focus.
Despite the fact that God said David is a man after His Heart, yet I saw him groaning in the place of prayer. Here is one of his prayer point.
“create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right, persevering, and steadfast Spirit within me.”
David, at some point in his life experienced tough MATTERS OF THE HEART which made him single out his heart in the place of prayer and settle matter with his creator so that his heart would not land him in danger.
There are times when the thoughts of our hearts have totally departed from the way of righteousness; there are times when all we could think of is the image of the nude lady we saw (just like David saw the naked woman bathing, and was enslaved by his thought.); times when all we think of is how to corner our ways to get something that we are not entitled to have (that’s the spirit of Gehazi) etc.
David was fed up with his heart and he needed a new heart to communicate well with Yaweh. David did not just stop at the point of asking for new heart, he pressed further by asking God to renew a steadfast spirit within him. He requested for a steadfast spirit because he knew that if God finally creates a clean heart in him, his fleshy nature or unsteadfast spirit cannot sustain him, in other word his unsteadfast spirit can’t make his heart clean forever. Therefore, his spirit needed to be RENEWED.
David’s heart could attain a pleasing state in God’s sight because HE KNEW THE CREATOR who created all things. Therefore, he approached him for a PURE HEART and a RENEWED SPIRIT.
Who do you know that can save you from all the filthiness of your heart? Your parents, friends, lecturers? Not even your pastor. Only God has the power to renew your heart and spirit because he formed it.
“I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart will I give you, and a new Spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh…”
Why don’t you go to God in prayers and ask him to sprinkle clean water upon you?
May God help our hearts. May our hearts be established with grace.
