BIBLE STUDY OUTLINE WEDNESDAY 16 MARCH, 2016
MARCH THEME: LIGHT OF MEN
TOPIC: THE DISCIPLES OF THE LIGHT
TEXT: JOHN 1: 4-6, 15, 19-34, JOHN 8:12, Matt 5: 14-16
AIM: TO GENUINELY KNOW AND LIVE THE LIFE OF CHRIST.
INTRODUCTION: The previous study we had revealed that there is a kind of Life in Jesus Christ which was Light unto Men (Drawing men to God and Showing them how to live). For any generation to sustain her heritage there must be Bearers, Disciples or Witnesses who continually love and exhibit such values. Thus our Lord Jesus needs those mentioned earlier, who? Matt 5: 14, 16 ___________, to reproduce His life. Not still born, Miscarried life, Bastard or those not willing to be identified with Jesus. Jonah 1:1-3, Matt 26: 69-75
DISCIPLES OF LIGHT
A disciple is a person who accepts, follows and spreads the teaching of a famous person. In the context of our study, Jesus is Light, hence the Disciples of Light are Disciples of Christ. These are:
i. People who had been made light by the life of Christ.
ii. Those who believe, abide in and follow the Lord. John 8: 12, 31, 1peter 2: 21.
iii. People who live in pattern to the life of Christ as they follow worthy examples. Philippians 3: 17, 1Cor 11: 1.
iv. They are not ashamed of the light they have. Matt 5: 15, Rom 1: 16, Acts 2: 14, 4: 13.
v. They live the life of faith and do not compromise their stand as Witness. Dan 3: 13-18, Ps. 137: 1-4, Acts 4: 20, 5: 27-32.
vi. They reflect Jesus’ character of love. John 13: 34-35, Acts 4: 32, 34.
AS DISCIPLES OF LIGHT
How are we to Shine?
i. By living a pure and a blameless life. Dan 6: 4
ii. Representing Christ everywhere and at anytime.
iii. Through good works. Acts 10: 38, Matt 5: 16, John 14: 12
Active witness in preaching the gospel, showing people love and care
Why are we to shine?
i. That God may be glorified. Matt 5: 16
ii. That sinners may be saved. Ezek 33: 8-9, 2Cor 5: 10-11, 14-15.
Where are we to Shine?
Our shining is only relevant in this world: crooked and depraved generation. Prov 2:13-15. We are to shine in private, public, socially, spiritually, academically etc.
Wherever a disciple of the Light goes, works, or lives, the light of his life will penetrate the darkness and glorify God. Whenever he/she walks after the Spirit and opens his mouth to speak God’s Word of Life and live what he says, lives of people around him/her will be influenced for the Lord. The world cares little for what we say when our actions are not in harmony with our words.
